Dzogchen Center wishes to announce that Charles Genoud will again guide our annual pilgrimage to Nepal and Tibet. This will be the twentieth successive year Charles has led Buddhist practitioners on this journey. The tour dates are Friday June 15 through Thursday July 5, 2001. The tour group is limited to 15 people. The cost is $4590. To acclimatize more easily to high altitude, the group will fly directly to Lhasa from Kathmandu, then after five days in Lhasa, travel overland back to Kathmandu, spending three days there before returning via Singapore to New York. The altitude at Lhasa is roughly 12,000 feet, about the same as Colorado ski resorts. However some of the mountain passes in Tibet soar over 16,000 feet, and it is no surprise that one of the stopovers on the way back to Nepal will be near Everest base camp. Sightseeing in Lhasa includes the Dalai Lama’s palace, the Potala; Drepung monastery, Samyas monastery, and visits to nearby caves in which Guru Rinpoche, Longchenpa, and other important figures of the Vajrayana practiced. On the way to Nepal, there will be the great stupa of Gyantse, with its beautiful paintings dating from the 16th century, and the great temples of Tashilungpo.
