Maharaj-ji, Neem Karoli Baba (189?-1973), was an Indian saint, a wandering saddhu of the bhakti yoga school. Well-known in the West through the writings of Baba Ram Dass (R. Alpert), he was Surya Das's first guru and gave him his spiritual name, which means "Servant of the Sun".
His Hanuman Ashram at Kairchi in N. India and in Taos, New Mexico remain today.
