Nyoshul Khenpo Rinpoche

Nyoshul Khenpo Rinpoche

It is with the deepest regret that we have to inform visitors of the death of Nyoshul Khenpo Rinpoche at his home in the Dordogne, France on Friday 27 August 1999.

The Dzogchen lineage held by Lama Surya Das was transmitted to him by Nyoshul Khenpo. Accordingly Nyoshul Khenpo holds a special place in the hearts of Lama Surya Das and of his students.

"DÜ SUM SANG GYEY GU RU RIN PO CHEY

(translation)

Nyoshul Khenpo Rinpoche, Jamyang Dorje (1932-1999), was one of the most eminent contemporary Tibetan Buddhist masters: a Dzogchen master, an upholder of the non-sectarian Riméd Practice Lineage, and one of the principal teachers of Lama Surya Das.

Khenpo Rinpoche was a major lineage holder of the Longchen Nyinthig ("Heart Essence") Dzogchen tradition. Please also read his autobiography.

Khenpo was the author of several books, including Natural Great Perfection: Dzogchen Teachings and Vajra Songs with Surya Das (copyright 1995, Snow Lion Publications).

On his last visit to the United States in 1994, he gave teachings at the Harvard Divinity School. He lived in Bhutan, and passed away at the Nyingmapa retreat centre of Chateloube in the Dordogne, France, on 27 August 1999.
