The Eleventh Trungpa Rinpoche, Chokyi Gyantso (1938-1987) was the major Buddhist pioneer in America. Meditation master, scholar and poet, this late Kagyu incarnate lama wrote numerous books; founded the first accredited Buddhist University in the Occident (Naropa Institute in Boulder, Colorado); and established Vajradhatu Dharma and Shambhala training centers world-wide.
